Media Object

This is an implementation of schema.org MediaObject.

In Stencila Schema it acts as the common base type for embeddable media such as images, audio, and video, while also remaining instantiable when only a generic media resource is known. It connects schema.org media metadata with Stencila's document node model so media can be represented both as metadata and as rendered document content.

Key properties include contentUrl, embedUrl, and mediaType. Prefer AudioObject, ImageObject, or VideoObject when the media kind is known.

Analogues

The following external types, elements, or nodes are similar to a MediaObject:

  • schema.org MediaObject

  • HTML <img>: Approximate HTML analogue for embedded media, though Stencila MediaObject generalizes over image, audio, and video resources.

  • JATS <inline-media>: Close JATS analogue for generic embeddable media.

  • Pandoc Image: Only an approximate Pandoc analogue; Pandoc has media-specific inline nodes rather than a generic media-object base type.
